Green Mattresses: The Bed On Which Mother Nature Would Slumber

We think soy is a big deal.

Sure, we enjoy the occasional soy latte, that’s not what we’re talking about. If you could put a chunk of our mattress foam under a microscope, you’d find that a whole lot of soy molecules and not a lot of the crazy chemicals you’d find in other mattresses.

Old Technology: Sending Legions to the Lanfills

Soy is just the beginning for us. In our labs, environmentally-friendly beds are more than just the foam you rest on.

All those metal coils that kept grandma and grandpa happy back in the 50’s are still around today in many mattresses. Trapped amid a harrowing web of chemical-laden filling, there’s a good chance these coils will never see the light of day once they’re covered in fabric and sent out from the factory. These traditional mattresses often languish in landfills because they’re nearly impossible to take apart piece-by-piece.

On the Bright Side: A Recyclable Future for Your Bed

The picture is bleak, we know; legions of old mattresses passing the time amid hazard material. Take a look on the bright side, the Somnium side.

Our spring system is composed of high-quality elastomer springs that, when dutifully retired from mattress duty, can be ground up and repurposed for yoga mats, rubber duckies and a host of other useful domestic careers.

Reincarnation isn’t a bad thing when it comes to your bed springs.

Going Green: Saying Good-Bye To Chemicals and Coils

On the sad day that your Somnium mattress heads to bed heaven, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your mattress will enter a noble rest. Its counterparts, however, will go out with a fight: many mattresses on the market today are made with formaldehyde (yes, that formaldehyde), heavy metal (no, not that heavy metal) and other dangerous chemicals.
